HUHS provides patients with comprehensive, coordinated health care through a primary care team that includes a primary care physician (PCP), nurse practitioner, registered nurses, and health assistants. Our teams work closely with patients to provide high-quality outpatient health care services in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If you are experiencing symptoms of a medical emergency (e.g., chest pain, severe shortness of breath) call 9-1-1 immediately (9-911 from a campus phone).
We provide urgent care during regular clinic hours. Let the receptionist know that you have an urgent matter and he/she will connect you with either the triage nurse or one of the clinicians.
After hours and weekend care for non-routine, urgent medical concerns or symptoms is available through the After Hours Urgent Care Clinic.
PRIMARY CARE TEAMS
At HUHS, we provide each patient with complete, coordinated health care through a primary care team that will assist you with all of your health care needs at Harvard. Your primary care team also helps coordinate any necessary specialty services both at HUHS and in the Cambridge/Boston area.
How Our Primary Care Teams Work
Making an Appointment
An annual physical exam can focus on changes to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Routine exams tests, screenings, and contraception.
Referrals to specialists
If your PCP or NP determines that your condition requires diagnosis and treatment by a specialist, you will be referred to one of our consulting physicians. Board-certified specialists, who also have practices affiliated with Harvard teaching hospitals, hold regularly scheduled clinics in a wide range of specialties at HUHS. HUHS also refers patients to specialists at all Harvard teaching hospitals for specialties not available at HUHS.
Evaluation of acute illness and injury
We provide urgent care during daytime hours. Let the receptionist know that you have an urgent matter; he or she will connect you with either the triage nurse, or with one of the clinicians.
Continued care of chronic medical conditions
Health promotion and disease prevention education
HUHS provides immunizations and related services prior to foreign travel, including expert counseling and advice for individual travel health needs. These services are available to all Harvard students and all HUGHP members with an HUHS primary care physician. HUHS recommends scheduling appointments six to eight weeks in advance of travel.
