Student Health Plan at a Glance
Every registered student is covered for care at Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) under the Student Health Fee (SHF)
- There are no co-payments for most office visits and tests performed at HUHS. The SHF includes a prescription drug benefit administered by Medco. There are thousands of participating pharmacies in this plan, including the HUHS Pharmacy, CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. For other participating pharmacies visit Medco.com.
- A broad range of services are offered among the four campus locations at Holyoke Center (Harvard Square), Cumnock Hall (Business School), Pound Hall (Law School), and Vanderbilt Hall (Medical Area), including medical visits, specialty care, mental health visits, the Stillman Infirmary, pediatric care and urgent care.
- Urgent care services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at HUHS in Holyoke Center (Harvard Square).
- Each student is assigned a primary care physician (PCP). Your PCP is the best resource for all health care questions and for specialty referrals. You may change your PCP at any time.
Care outside of HUHS requires that you have additional insurance. All students are automatically enrolled in the Harvard Student Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Plan. The Harvard Student BCBS Plan covers:
- Three outside consultations per academic year (August 1 through July 31).
- Up to 12 psychotherapy sessions with an outside mental health provider.
- Hospitalizations, ER visits, CT Scans and MRI when medically necessary.
- Up to $1,500 in Chiropractic care with BCBS network providers.
Copayments, coinsurance and deductibles may apply. Please see the Student BCBS Plan benefit summary for details.
