The HUHS Mental Health Service offers Harvard students comprehensive outpatient care for a wide variety of mental health concerns, including:

  • Relationship concerns
  • Difficulties adjusting to new situations
  • Stress/crisis management
  • Roommate issues
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • Eating concerns
  • Addictive behaviors

No concern is too small. Our licensed practitioners provide assessment, consultation, support, treatment, and follow-up care at our main clinic in Holyoke Center (Harvard Square), and at clinics on the Law School, Business School, and Longwood Medical Area campuses.  Treatment options include individual psychotherapy, medication management, biofeedback, group therapy, and couples therapy.

Services

Individual Counseling

Individual therapy addresses a variety of personal issues and concerns. Counseling provided through the mental health service includes crisis intervention, short-term focused therapy and ongoing therapy for a focal problem, which interferes in one's functional ability.

Medication Management

Medication management is provided in the context of an ongoing therapeutic relationship, and conducted in coordination with the primary therapist and psychopharmacologist.

Group Counseling

Group counseling offers an opportunity to share your concerns by meeting with others in a confidential, safe environment.

Peer Counseling

Peer counseling programs give students meaningful ways to participate in the delivery of health care and wellness activities.

Urgent Care

Urgent care services are available 24 hours a day to students in times of crisis.

What to Expect
New patients are scheduled for an initial 20-minute intake appointment (within 24-48 hours) to speak with a senior clinician by phone. He or she will assess your needs and help you make a follow up appointment with a recommended provider. There are no set limits on visits at HUHS; your care may range from a few visits to an extended period of time depending on the clinical assessment of your needs over the course of treatment. Whether you are experiencing a crisis, looking for positive change, or simply need someone to listen, our team of experienced clinicians will partner with you to improve the quality of your emotional and behavioral health.
