Obstetrics (Pregnancy and Childbirth)
We look forward to working with you to nurture a rewarding pregnancy experience that fully meets your expectations. As you begin your care with us we would like to explain what you can expect from our office during your pregnancy as well as respond to common concerns and questions.
When you are pregnant at 8 weeks you will have your first visit with a nurse. You will then choose one of the obstetricians as your prenatal care provider. Most of your care will be with that provider. However at some point it is a good idea to meet all of the obstetricians at least once during your pregnancy. This is to your advantage in the instance that an emergency occurs or your go into labor and your obstetrician is unavailable.
what to expect from the service
The University Health Services OB/GYN is a Faculty Practice, which means that each physician is a member of the teaching staff at Harvard Medical School as well as an OB/GYN MD at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Each physician and the nurse practitioner see patients in the office one or two sessions a week. When they are not in the office, they are involved in teaching, research, surgery, or attending to patients in labor.
The physicians and nurse practitioner are always in the office on their scheduled days. You will never have your appointment canceled while a doctor delivers a baby. The physician who attends your delivery will be one of our faculty physicians responsible for managing our labor patients on that day. One of the physicians is available 24 hours a day. Your primary nurse, whom you will meet during your initial visit, or one of her counterparts, will be available Monday through Friday from 9:00-5:00 p.m.
Our patients deliver at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
