Summer 2022 Immunization Special Alert

July 26, 2022

As the start of the academic year approaches, Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) reminds all incoming students of the University’s immunization requirements.

Students should do all they can to be fully compliant with these requirements before arrival on campus. HUHS will not host large-scale immunization clinics. However, there will be COVID-19 and flu clinics in the fall.

  • Flu Vaccine Fall 2022
Flu vaccines need to be obtained after 7/1/2022 to be compliant for the upcoming year. You have until 12/31/2022 to obtain your flu vaccination. Noncompliance with the flu requirement will not impact your ability to register for classes for the summer or fall semester. Plan on receiving and uploading your flu vaccination data as soon as possible. Your Portal page will continue to show non-compliant until you are able to submit the documentation.

Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) will be having flu vaccine clinics in the fall. The HUHS website will post clinic dates later in August and September.

  • Students unable to receive the required immunizations before arriving on campus should contact HUHS by phone at (617) 495- 5711 to schedule an appointment. No online vaccination appointments can be made. Note that immunization appointments are subject to availability in Internal Medicine/Primary Care. If an appointment is made, students must notify Health Information Services (HIS) of the date of their appointment through a secure message in the Patient Portal.

  • If an appointment cannot be accommodated at HUHS within the desired timeframe, students may access immunization appointments within the local community. HUHS recommends Walgreens or RiteAid. Students should check with their insurance to confirm coverage for preventative vaccines at local pharmacies.

  • HUHS will not make appointments for titer orders. Students should be directed to their local Minute Clinic. Be advised that requested titers may be subject to an out-of-pocket cost.

  • Students who have an immunization appointment with HUHS-HIS will be temporarily exempt from the immunization requirement, and their registration hold will be lifted. If the student does not make the immunization appointment, the registration hold will be returned to their My.Harvard record.

  • Students who have an immunization appointment outside of HUHS (a provider or retail pharmacy) should upload their appointment information to the Patient Portal. Once uploaded, the student will be temporarily exempt from the immunization requirement, and the registration hold will be lifted. If the student does not upload their immunization documentation following their appointment from the outside provider or retail pharmacy, the registration hold will be returned to their My.Harvard record.
